| We worked diligently to secure several popular fishing areas near Ellensburg. When extensive littering nearly forced closure of Mattoon Lake some years ago, members conducted litter patrols. We donated $2,000 to help WDFW purchase Fio Rito Lakes. We installed the fence and parking lot at McCabe Pond (Helen McCabe State Park) and we continue our efforts at the park with litter patrols. The Club sponsored the original Yakima River Clean Up, which is now a community-wide event. We send representatives to F&W Commission meetings to represent anglers of the Kittitas Valley. | ><<>>< ><<>>< ><<>>< Those Darn Weeds "EURASIAN MILFOIL" We're joining WDFW, the Dept of Ecology , and Kittitas County Noxious Weed Board in a cooperative effort to eradicate the Eurasian Milfoil in Mattoon, Fio Rito and Lavendar Lake. These are the only three aquatic areas in Kittitas County with Eurasian Milfoil. Lake Management Plans will be developed and courses of action for eradication and follow up maintenance will be considered and open for public input prior to finalization. The Field & Stream Club will head up the Public Outreach and Education portion. Progress will be briefed at the general membership meetings. UPDATE: The Mattoon & Fio Rito Lake Integrated Aquatic Vegetation Management Plans are available for viewing and public comment.
